BBC Micro ROMs

BBC Micro Information

In 1981, the BBC and Acorn Computers companies released BBC Micro – one of the first home computers on the market. It is believed that because of its appearance was formed an IT-industry of Great Britain, including the video game industry. After more than thirty years, BBC made a new revolution – this time in secondary education. To achieve this, the company released a BBC Micro Bit, the ancestor of the original BBC Micro, which supposedly should teach kids how to code.

In early 1980s, the British Broadcasting Corporation BBC has launched a project which became known as the BBC Computer Literacy Project. This project was initiated in response to the sensational documentary The Mighty Micro. In it Dr. Christopher Evans predicted the beginning of the computer revolution and its future impact on the economy, the industry and the entire way of like in the UK.

Today BBC Micro evaluated not only as an amazing product of British engineering. Equipped with ARM-based processors, it is superior in performance to the other PCs of 80s and early 90s. The operating system and basic applications stored in the ROM on the motherboard, which reduced the loading time to almost zero.
