Galaksija ROMs

Galaksija Information

Galaksija – the first Yugoslavian DYI computer that started the revolution in the computer industry in Yugoslavia. In the 1980s computers were a rare luxury in Yugoslavia. ZX Spectrum or Commodore 64 price was more than the monthly salary, and that’s if you were able to break through all obstacles related with imports. Later, in 1983, during a holiday in Risan, Voya Antonic started to think about a new computer, the national computer which would be cheaper than imported from abroad. In 1983, few people knew what is computer and how they look like. At that time, the only computers that the majority of inhabitants of Yugoslavia have ever seen were programmable calculators, but the situation started to change rapidly. Antonic at that time already spent several years studying and working with electronics – namely, microprocessors, and the high cost of imported computers led him to undertake the development of his own.

Galaksija computer processor was the Zilog Z80, inexpensive and widely used chip, which was also used in ZX Spectrum by Sinclair. Although Galaksija couldn’t be comparable with the commercial computers of the same time in its capabilities, it had an important local impact. Many computer enthusiasts have studied the work of computers on Galaksija example – it turned out to be a good tool for learning and experimentation. The games released for Galaksija were converted into roms and iso formats.
