Sega SG1000 or also known as SEGA Game 1000 – a video game console of the second generation released by Sega Company. As a storage for games it uses cartridges. This console is the first attempt of the Sega to conquer the market of gaming industry for home use. Anyhow, SG1000 cannot boast of great popularity, but it started the path of the great successor, the console Sega Master System. Sales of the Sega SG1000 started in 1981 in Japan, but they were experimental. Complete, large-scale sales were launched in July 1983 on the Japanese market, but has not received special recognition, however on the Asian markets in general console was in demand. Mainly the initial sales have failed because the date coincided with the start of sales of Famicon. United States market never received Sega SG1000 under that name. The manufacturer of interactive and educational toys Tsukada Original have designed a clone console with the name Othello Multivision. In North America, the cloned console was sold under the name Telegames Personal Arcade and was produced by Bit Corp. Another name was DINA 2-in-1. It was able to run the games not only for SG-1000, but also those, specifically developed for Colecovision, which gave certain advantages.
Low popularity of Sega SG1000 was due to the technical superiority of Famicon, lack of video games and video game industry crisis that began in 1983. Having lived through hard times, Sega in 1984 have released an updated version of the console under the name SG- 1000 II. Anyway during the short life of the console, many third party developers have released unique games for it, which you can find in Sega SG1000 roms games section and download for free. All of them can be played on your computer with the use of emulator software.
