Sharp MZ 700 Information

Sharp MZ 700 (MZ-721) is the new computer presented by Sharp on November 1982. The series consisted of 4 models, MZ 711, which was the first and basically the “naked” version, MZ 721 – a bit improved version of 711 with built-in tape recorder, MZ 731 – integrated plotter and tape recorder, and the last model MZ 780, which contained a floppy disk drive, Centronics port and worked on CP/M operating system.

Sharp MZ 700 series came to UK only in October 1983. It was the first color computer of MZ series, however it was not supplied with color monitor. Instead, it has an output to TV or color monitor. The support of black-and-white monitors and TVS remained. MZ 700 was not received well by public. It had low resolution (80 column screen) and was not very good machine for games at that era. Competitors could offer much better gaming machines for the lower price. However, Sharp MZ 700 was quite popular among the programmers and computer enthusiasts, since it allowed to load a large variety of programming languages from tape.
